Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Rully 1er Cru Chapitre Rouge 2022

Dureuil-Janthial's Chapitre is a walled 1er Cru in the heart of Rully village, planted in 1958.

The Chapitre sits low on the slope, surrounded by a stone wall, on soils that are mostly clay. Its name records the monks of the Saint-Vincent chapter, who tended the plot from the fifth century onward; Vincent is the patron saint of winemakers, which makes the connection a neat one. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial has been the leading figure in Rully for two decades, farming with great care and making wines that are naturally fermented, slow and long in the vat, and bottled without filtration. The old vines here, now well past sixty years, give small crops of concentrated fruit, but the clay-based soils and the low position on the slope keep the wine graceful and silky rather than dense, which is the character this parcel is known for.

Drink from three years and hold up to a decade; serve at 16–18°C with roast pigeon, mushroom dishes or hard cheeses.
