Description
Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Rully Maizières Blanc is a single-vineyard village wine from a sunny lieu-dit east of the village, farmed organically.
Rully, in the north of the Côte Chalonnaise, has long supplied fresh and affordable white Burgundy, and its better lieux-dits now stand comparison with the lesser communes of the Côte de Beaune. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial farms two hectares in Maizières, planted in 1997 to both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; the Pinot Noir goes into the domaine's Rully Rouge, while the Chardonnay is bottled on its own as this wine. The soils here are lighter clay and limestone than in the domaine's premier cru sites, and the eastern aspect catches good morning sun, which together produce a wine noticeably more generous than the straight village Rully. Farming is organic, fermentation is in cask and the wine is raised on lees with restrained oak.
Ready on release and good for four or five years, it suits roast chicken, pork rillettes or grilled prawns. Serve at 10 to 12°C.
