Description
Domaine Faiveley Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru is a red Burgundy from the largest of the grand crus of Gevrey-Chambertin.
Charmes-Chambertin lies on the lower slope directly below Chambertin itself, on the eastern side of the road through Gevrey, where the ground is flatter and the soil deeper. Together with the adjoining Mazoyères-Chambertin, whose growers are entitled to use the Charmes name, it covers around thirty hectares, which makes it the most extensive of the nine Gevrey grand crus. Faiveley has been established at Nuits-Saint-Georges since 1825 and holds one of the broadest ranges of grand cru vineyards in Burgundy. The wine is fermented in small batches and matured in French oak barrel with a moderate proportion of new wood.
Decant and serve at around 16 degrees with beef, game or a washed rind cheese; it drinks well from eight years and will hold much longer.
