Description
Domaine Faiveley Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru 'Morgeot' is a white Burgundy from the largest and best known premier cru of the commune.
Morgeot occupies the southern end of Chassagne-Montrachet, a broad sweep of vineyard on heavier, clay rich limestone that takes in a number of separately named parcels, all of them entitled to use the Morgeot name. It was monastic land long before it was carved into premier crus. Chassagne was largely a red wine village until the middle of the twentieth century, and the turn to Chardonnay is more recent than most people assume. Faiveley, founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825, has considerably expanded its white holdings in the Côte de Beaune in recent decades; the fruit is whole bunch pressed and fermented in barrel.
Serve at around 12 degrees with roast fish, poultry in a cream sauce or a firm cheese; it will improve for five years or more.
