Description
Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 'Clos des Issarts' Monopole is a small walled Premier Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin owned in its entirety by the Faiveley family.
A monopole is a vineyard in the hands of a single owner, a rare thing in Burgundy, where most climats are divided among many growers. Clos des Issarts is an enclosed parcel among the Premier Cru vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin, and Faiveley farms and bottles every row of it. The commune is the largest on the Côte de Nuits and counts nine Grands Crus. The house was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and has passed through seven generations; Georges Faiveley was among the founders of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin in 1934. Fruit is sorted on arrival, fermented traditionally and raised in French oak barrels.
Suited to game birds, veal or roast lamb, served near 16 degrees. The structure here rewards ten years or more in the cellar.
