Description
Domaine Faiveley Mercurey 1er Cru 'Clos des Myglands' Monopole is a Premier Cru in the Côte Chalonnaise owned outright by the Faiveley family.
Mercurey is the largest and best known appellation of the Côte Chalonnaise, the run of vineyard that continues south of the Côte de Beaune, and it is planted overwhelmingly to Pinot Noir. Clos des Myglands is a walled Premier Cru held as a monopole, which means Faiveley owns and farms all of it, an uncommon arrangement in a region of shared vineyards. The house was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and is now in its seventh generation; its investment in Mercurey over many decades did much to lift the standing of the appellation. The wine is fermented in the traditional manner and matured in French oak, a modest share of it new.
Serve at about 16 degrees with charcuterie, roast pork or coq au vin. It drinks well from release and keeps for several years.
