Description
Domaine Faiveley Meursault 1er Cru "Blagny" is a Chardonnay from a hamlet perched high on the hill where Meursault meets Puligny-Montrachet.
Blagny is one of Burgundy's oddities: a small hamlet with an appellation of its own that applies only to red wine, while the whites grown around it are sold as Meursault Premier Cru or Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru depending on which side of the boundary they fall. The vineyards sit at the top of the slope, higher and cooler than the celebrated Meursault climats below, on thin soil over limestone, and the harvest there is usually a little later. Faiveley, founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and now in its seventh generation, presses whole bunches for its whites, ferments in barrel and ages on fine lees with restrained new oak.
Serve at 12 to 13 degrees with roast poultry, veal or richer fish dishes. It is worth keeping for five to ten years.
