Domaine François Chidaine Montlouis Les Choisilles 2020

Domaine François Chidaine Montlouis Les Choisilles is named after the black flint that runs through the parcels behind it.

Montlouis-sur-Loire is Chenin Blanc country, a plateau of clay, flint and tuffeau limestone facing Vouvray from the south bank of the river. Les Choisilles is assembled from Les Épinais, La Taille aux Loups and Clos Renard, sites that share a tuffeau bedrock and carry vines ranging from 30 to 90 years old. The choisilles themselves are the black flints scattered through the topsoil, and Chidaine holds that the deep-rooted vines transmit their character directly to the wine. The winemaking follows the same pattern as the domaine's Clos du Breuil, so the difference between the two bottlings comes down to the sites rather than the cellar. The result is the finer-boned of the pair, supple and long rather than broad, with the salinity that the domaine's wines are known for.

Drinking well from release and capable of ten years or more. Serve at 10-12°C with steamed fish and ginger, a Thai green curry or roast chicken.
