Domaine Gérard Boulay Sancerre La Côte 2021

Domaine Gérard Boulay Sancerre La Côte is drawn from the domaine's coolest parcel, on the great hillside above Chavignol.

First made as a single parcel in 2010, La Côte comes from the majestic La Grande Côte vineyard, sometimes called La Côte d'Amigny, a south to south-east facing slope on the edge of Chavignol. It has quickly become one of the heavyweights of the Boulay range. This is the domaine's coolest terroir and the last block picked each year, and the combination of pure Kimmeridgian limestone and a late harvest date delivers both density and precision. The wine is fermented and aged in three and four-year-old barrels, so the oak acts as a vessel rather than a flavour. The vines are relatively young by the domaine's standards at around twenty years, but they already carry the mineral imprint of the site with real intensity, in a more expressive register than Monts-Damnés.

Drink now or cellar for up to a decade. Serve at 10–12°C with grilled asparagus, goat's cheese or pan-fried flathead.
