Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Bourgogne Blanc Les Graviers 2024

Les Graviers is Ghislaine Barthod's Bourgogne Blanc, the first commercial white from a domaine famous for the reds of Chambolle-Musigny.

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of the benchmark addresses of Chambolle, with a long roster of Premiers Crus in the village. White wine was for many years a family affair only, made in tiny quantities from old Pinot Beurot and Chardonnay vines. This cuvée changed that. The Chardonnay was planted in the late 2010s in Les Graviers, a vineyard named for its stony soils and lying near Les Bon Batons on the edge of Chambolle, and the first release came from the 2020 harvest. Élevage is split evenly between used 500-litre oak and terracotta amphora, a combination that keeps the wood in the background and lets the site speak. The result is both fleshy and racy, and quite unlike most regional white Burgundy.

Drink over the next four or five years. Serve at 10 to 12°C with roast fish, poultry or a soft cow's-milk cheese.
