Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Aux Beaux Bruns is the most openly generous of the domaine’s Premiers Crus, bottled here in magnum.

Aux Beaux Bruns is one of the Premiers Crus lying close to the village of Chambolle-Musigny, on the same latitude as Les Charmes, and it shares that vineyard’s fleshy, textural character while opening earlier and carrying a more earthy, rocky complexity. The soils hold a good deal of red clay along with plenty of limestone pebbles, and the parcel is always the first of Barthod’s sites to be picked. The domaine farms 0.73 hectares here of sixty-five-year-old vines, a large holding by its standards, and the wine that results is aromatic and generous where others in the range are austere in youth. Domaine Ghislaine Barthod works almost entirely in Chambolle across ten Premiers Crus, with restrained new oak and gentle handling in the cellar. Very few magnums are filled.

Drinkable early, though the magnum will hold it back and stretch its life past fifteen years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast pork, duck or a soft washed-rind cheese.
