Description
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Combottes comes from 0.18 hectares that yield about two barrels in a good year.
Aux Combottes is a small premier cru in the heart of Chambolle-Musigny, just east of the village between Les Chatelots and Aux Beaux Bruns, and Barthod and Roumier are the two significant owners. Like Les Chatelots and Les Charmes, it sits on the silt-rich alluvial fan spread out by the Combe de Chambolle, which gives a softer, more open wine than the firmer, stonier crus to the north of the village and makes it accessible earlier. Ghislaine Barthod is one of the reference growers of the appellation, farming a mosaic of tiny parcels and keeping each one separate through fermentation and ageing so the character of the site stays legible; oak is used as support rather than seasoning.
One of the earlier-drinking wines in the range, good from two or three years and holding for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.
