Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes 2020

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes is the most muscular wine in the range and one of its rarest, from 0.19 hectares of vines.

Les Baudes covers 3.42 hectares on the northern edge of Chambolle-Musigny, directly below Bonnes Mares, and its soil is slightly richer and rockier than the paler ground higher up, with a distinct red cast. Ghislaine Barthod farms a small corner of it, planted more than forty-five years ago, and the wine that results is consistently the sturdiest of her premiers crus, needing the longest stay in the cellar before it opens. Some commentators read it as the most Morey-like of the domaine's cuvées, given its position at the northern boundary of the village, though its closest relative is arguably the Grand Cru immediately above it. The winemaking is the same across the cellar, unforced, with oak kept well behind the fruit.

Best left for six to eight years and good for two decades. Serve at 16-18°C with rare roast beef, jugged hare or a well-aged hard cheese.
