Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Les Baudes is the firmest wine in the range, from 0.19 hectares directly below the Grand Cru Bonnes Mares.

Les Baudes is a 3.42-hectare Premier Cru in the northern sector of Chambolle-Musigny, sitting just under Bonnes Mares on slightly richer, rockier red soil than the crus around it. Jasper Morris reaches for Morey-Saint-Denis when describing the wine; the closer comparison is probably Bonnes Mares itself, which may amount to the same observation. Barthod’s vines here are over forty-five years old and the holding is only 0.19 hectares, making this one of the rarest cuvées at an address where almost nothing is made in quantity. It is habitually the most muscular wine of the range and normally asks for the longest wait in the cellar, though the more gentle extraction practised by Clement Barthod in recent years has produced a rounder, more immediately seductive version of the site.

Firm young; five to eight years will suit it and it should hold for twenty. Serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, venison or aged hard cheese.
