Description
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Chatelots is made only from the oldest vines in the parcel, some of them around eighty years of age.
Les Chatelots runs to 2.96 hectares close to the village of Chambolle-Musigny and partly adjoins Les Charmes. Its topsoil is deeper and more alluvial than the thin, stony ground higher on the slope, and it carries plenty of small stones. Ghislaine Barthod declassifies the younger vine material here into her village Chambolle-Musigny, so only the old vines go into the premier cru, and the wine is vinified with 20 per cent new oak. The result is one of the more energetic wines in the range, bright and finely structured, with the perfume and fleshy griotte-cherry character that Chambolle is known for, carried here on a little more power than usual. Each climat at the domaine is farmed and vinified separately so that the differences between sites remain legible.
Drinking well from three or four years and holding for a decade or more. Serve at 16-18°C with roast pork, duck confit or a mushroom pithivier.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
