Description
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Les Fuées is a Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru from a quarter-hectare of ninety-year-old vines directly below Bonnes Mares.
Les Fuées is a 4.38-hectare cru in the northern sector of Chambolle-Musigny, sandwiched between Les Cras to the south and the Grand Cru Bonnes Mares to the north, and the best examples are textural and wildly scented, with wild fruit, flowers, thyme and forest floor rather than sheer weight. Domaine Ghislaine Barthod farms a quarter of a hectare of ninety-year-old vines on the mid-slope, where the soil is white marl studded with fossilised oysters and the mother rock closely resembles the geology of Bonnes Mares next door. The domaine has been in the hands of Ghislaine Barthod since the 1980s, with her son Clement now working alongside her, and its wines are known for tension and long life. Fifteen years is a normal wait for a Barthod Premier Cru to open out.
Rewarding young for its perfume, though it may close down for a period before hitting its stride at around fifteen years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast pigeon, mushroom dishes or aged Comté.
