Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers 2023

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Les Gruenchers has been made since 2009, when the domaine bought the parcel from Pousse d’Or.

Les Gruenchers lies north of the village of Chambolle-Musigny, directly below Les Fuées and Les Cras on gentler ground, separated from them by the Premier Cru Derrière la Grange. The clay here is deeper and whiter than in Les Fuées above, and Ghislaine Barthod places the style of the wine between Les Fuées and Aux Beaux Bruns, which matches its position on the map: the perfume and marl character of the northern crus with some of the flesh of the vineyards near the village. The parcel carries sixty-year-old vines but runs to only 0.18 hectares, so quantities are very small. Gruenchers takes 30 per cent new oak, more than most of the range, which suits the deeply textured character of the wine.

Give it four or five years and expect fifteen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, game birds or a mature soft cheese.
