Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Noirots 2023

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Les Noirots was blended into the village wine until 2017, when the domaine began bottling its 0.15 hectares separately.

Les Noirots sits in the northern sector of Chambolle-Musigny, with Les Baudes to the north and Les Gruenchers to the south, close enough to Bonnes Mares for the resemblance to show in the glass. Barthod’s holding is 0.15 hectares, so small that for practical reasons the fruit was long folded into the village Chambolle-Musigny. Separate bottling began with the 2017 vintage, when Clement Barthod joined his mother in the cellar and there were enough hands to justify the extra work. The wine reflects its position on the slope: good depth of fruit in a darker register than most Chambolle, solid structure, plenty of spice and a long, firm finish. It reads as a more open version of Les Baudes, the domaine’s most muscular cru, which lies immediately above it.

Best given four or five years and good for fifteen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, venison or aged hard cheese.
