Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Véroilles is a monopole premier cru, the highest and coolest site in the village.

Les Véroilles sits above Bonnes Mares at the top of the Chambolle-Musigny slope, close to the treeline. Only a small part of the vineyard carries premier cru status, granted in 1987, and Ghislaine Barthod owns the whole of that 0.37-hectare parcel, which makes the wine a monopole. Some of the vines are rooted almost directly in bare rock, and whatever the season this gives the cuvée its minerality and its unusual freshness; altitude and the proximity of the forest add to the wild, aromatic, juicy character that sets it apart from the domaine's warmer sites lower down. The vines now average fifty years of age, and the wine is raised in the domaine's restrained style, with oak used as support rather than seasoning, so that finesse and purity are what carry through.

Drinkable earlier than the domaine's sterner cuvées but rewarding from five years on. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, salmon with beetroot or mushrooms on toast.
