Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Véroilles 2023

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Les Véroilles is a monopole and the highest, coolest Premier Cru in Chambolle-Musigny.

Les Véroilles sits above Bonnes Mares at the top of the Chambolle-Musigny slope, right against the forest, and Ghislaine Barthod owns the whole of its 0.37 hectares. Some of the vines are rooted almost directly on bare rock, which accounts for the freshness and stony cut that appear in the wine regardless of the season, while the altitude and the cool air off the woods above give it a wild, aromatic quality that sets it apart from the crus lower down. The average age of the vines is now around fifty years. In 2023 the generosity of the season met the natural restraint of the site, producing a wine with more flesh than Véroilles usually shows in youth without losing the perfume and fine-boned structure that define it.

Attractive young for its scent, and capable of fifteen years or more. Serve at 16-18°C with roast poultry, mushroom dishes or a soft rind cheese.
