Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 2021

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny is a village wine assembled from twelve separate parcels across 1.5 hectares.

Chambolle-Musigny is the most fine-boned of the Côte de Nuits villages, its limestone-rich soils giving perfume and lift rather than sheer weight, and Ghislaine Barthod has spent her career mapping its climats parcel by parcel. The village cuvée draws on twelve of them, among them old vines in Aux Croix and Les Herbues, and is topped up with fruit from the younger vines in the premier cru Les Chatelots, which are themselves around forty years old. It sees 15 per cent new oak, the barrels chosen from Allier, Tronçais and a little Vosges wood supplied by François Frères and Rémond. In a cellar where each site is kept apart until blending, this remains one of the better-built village wines of the commune.

Approachable from two years and worth keeping for eight to ten. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a soft washed-rind cheese.
