Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 2023

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny is a village wine drawn from twelve parcels across a hectare and a half, including declassified Premier Cru fruit.

Chambolle-Musigny is the most delicately styled commune of the Côte de Nuits, its thin soils over hard limestone giving wines of scent and fine tannin rather than power. Barthod’s village bottling is assembled from twelve separate parcels totalling about 1.5 hectares, among them old vines in Aux Croix and Les Herbues, and it is topped up with the younger vines of the Premier Cru Les Chatelots, which at forty years old are only young by the domaine’s standards. New oak is kept to a minimum so that the parcels rather than the barrels do the talking. The domaine has been run by Ghislaine Barthod since the mid-1980s and more recently with her son Clement, whose gentler extraction has softened the profile of the wines without costing them structure. This is one of the reference village wines of the commune.

Approachable at three years and good for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a soft rind cheese.
