Domaine Goisot Bourgogne Aligoté 2023

Domaine Goisot Bourgogne Aligoté is anchored by 90-year-old Aligoté Doré on the high, cool slopes above Saint-Bris.

Aligoté is Burgundy's other white grape, and it needs old vines and the right soil to amount to much. Goisot, farming biodynamically at Saint-Bris in the Auxerrois, has both. The core parcel is 90-year-old Aligoté Doré planted north-west of the village on Barrémien soil, a dense ancient clay littered with blue-grey fossilised oyster shells several inches across. A group of 45-year-old vines in the lieux-dits of Croix Rougeot, Côte de Coutance and Côte de la Canne, close to the estate's Exogyra Virgula vineyard, fills out the blend. Picking is late enough to get properly ripe fruit, which gives the wine far more texture than the variety usually manages. Fermentation is with native yeasts and ageing is entirely in tank, with no oak involved at any point.

Drink over the next three to four years. Serve at 10-12°C with oysters, gougères or grilled sardines.
