Domaine Goisot Bourgogne Côtes d’Auxerre La Ronce Rouge is a biodynamic single-vineyard Pinot Noir planted at 12,000 vines per hectare.

The Côtes d’Auxerre lie in the Yonne, in northern Burgundy near Chablis and Irancy, and the Goisot family have farmed at Saint-Bris for generations, working biodynamically. La Ronce was replanted about twenty years ago at 12,000 vines per hectare, using low-yielding mass-selection cuttings chosen specifically to suit the site’s warm microclimate. Each vine carries only two to four bunches, half to a third of what a well-managed grand cru site in the Côte d’Or would be expected to produce, and that concentration shows in the wine. Unlike Les Mazelots in Irancy, La Ronce sits on white clay soils rich in fossils, and the difference is clear in the glass: this is the more seductive and sweet-fruited of the pair, in what the family call the Beaunois style, where the Mazelots is more mineral and more structured.

Drinking well now and good for another five years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, coq au vin or a mushroom tart.
