Domaine Goisot Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerre La Ronce Rouge 2020

Domaine Goisot Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerre La Ronce Rouge is a biodynamic single-vineyard Pinot Noir from white clay soils near Saint-Bris.

The Côtes d'Auxerre sit in the Yonne, the cool northern outpost of Burgundy around Chablis and Irancy, where Pinot Noir ripens later and keeps a brighter, more tensile line than in the Côte d'Or. Guilhem Goisot farms the family estate at Saint-Bris-le-Vineux biodynamically and works its parcels as individual sites. La Ronce was replanted some twenty years ago at 12,000 vines per hectare using low-yielding massale selection material chosen specifically to suit the site's warm microclimate. Each vine carries only two to four bunches, roughly a third to a half of what a well-managed grand cru site in the Côte d'Or would give. Unlike Les Mazelots in Irancy, La Ronce lies on white clay rich in fossils, and that soil pushes the wine towards a more seductive, sweet-fruited style, closer to what the locals call Beaunois, than the mineral, structured persona of the Mazelots.

Drink now or over the next six or seven years. Serve at 16°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom and thyme tart.
