Domaine Goisot Irancy La Voie de Cravant 2020

Domaine Goisot Irancy La Voie de Cravant is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir from an organically farmed parcel of just 0.30 hectares.

Irancy is the red-wine appellation of the Yonne, a pocket of Pinot Noir in the far north of Burgundy a short drive from Chablis and Auxerre, where cool nights and limestone soils give reds of firm shape rather than plush fruit. La Voie de Cravant sits in the lower part of the appellation, facing west to south-south-west on red clay studded with Kimmeridgian stones. Goisot took over the farming of the parcel in 2018 from a friend who was looking for someone to manage it, and released the first vintage in 2019; the vines remain young. Farming is organic, as it is across the domaine's holdings around Saint-Bris. The combination of altitude, exposition and stony red clay gives a deeper and more structured Pinot Noir than Irancy's reputation for lightness might suggest.

Drinkable now and likely to hold for five to eight years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast guinea fowl, mushroom risotto or a plate of jambon persillé.
