Domaine Guffens-Heynen Pouilly-Fuissé Les Trois C 2024

Domaine Guffens-Heynen Les Trois C is named for the three vineyards behind it, having spent years as the C.C. when there were only two.

The wine was long a blend of two parcels of forty- to fifty-year-old vines on the steep, chalky western flank of the Roche de Vergisson, in the La Côte and En Carmentrant vineyards, hence the original C.C. on the label. A third site, Les Crays, has since been added, and three Cs required a new name. Each contributes something different: La Côte, directly beneath the rock and facing north-east, gives a cool, mineral line; the south-facing vines of En Carmentrant add flesh and texture; and Les Crays, mid-slope on the steep belly of the Roche on cool, rocky ground, brings lift and a certain austerity of structure. Guffens-Heynen works with very low yields and long ageing, and the assembled wine holds concentration and richness against vibrant acidity and chalky drive.

Give it three or four years and expect it to hold for a decade. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, roast pork or a firm goat’s cheese.
