Domaine Henri Germain Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes Rouge 2023

Domaine Henri Germain Beaune Bressandes is a Premier Cru from vines planted between 1960 and 1965, high on the slopes above the town towards Corton.

Beaune has more Premier Cru land than any other commune in Burgundy, and Les Bressandes, on the northern edge towards Corton, is among its better sites. It shares its name with the Grand Cru Bressandes on the Corton hill, both named after Jean Bressand, a thirteenth-century canon of Beaune. Domaine Henri Germain’s vines sit high on the slope, beside those of David Croix, on stony ground that keeps the wines taut. This is the deepest red in a range built around Meursault, and it holds to the house manner: tightly wound, sappy, with flesh underneath and a fine finish rather than a broad one. The domaine works with restrained new oak and gentle handling in the cellar, which suits a cru that can turn firm in the wrong hands.

Give it three to five years and expect it to hold for twelve. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, game birds or aged Comté.
