Description
This rare Aligoté comes from a single plot planted in 1977 in Les Plançons, a terroir within the commune of Meursault.
Aligoté is Burgundy's second white grape, long treated as an afterthought but increasingly taken seriously where old vines sit on good ground. Domaine Henri Germain's plot in Les Plançons dates from 1977, which is old for the variety, and lies within Meursault, though the wine is bottled under the regional Bourgogne Aligoté appellation. The grapes were picked in late August, the last fruit off the estate and a week after the Chardonnay. The wine was aged for twelve months split between barrique and tank, then blended and rested a further five months in tank before bottling, an unusually patient regime for a wine at this level. The result keeps Aligoté's natural cut while gaining texture from the extended élevage.
Drink over the next four or five years. Serve well chilled at 10-12°C with oysters, whitebait or gougères.
