Description
Description
Domaine Henri Germain Bourgogne Aligoté comes from a single plot of vines planted in 1977 in the Meursault lieu-dit Les Plançons.
Aligoté is Burgundy's second white variety, long treated as an afterthought but increasingly taken seriously where old vines survive on decent ground. Domaine Henri Germain is a small family estate in Meursault, best known for its village and premier cru Chardonnay, and its Aligoté is made in tiny quantity from one parcel in Les Plançons, on the flatter land at the edge of the commune. The vines date from 1977, old enough to give concentration and depth that younger Aligoté rarely manages. The domaine's approach across the range is consistent and unshowy, and the wine keeps the bright, lemony bite of the variety while carrying more texture than the appellation usually suggests.
Best drunk over the next three years. Serve at 10-12°C with oysters, gougères or a plate of prawns.
