Description
Domaine Henri Germain's Bourgogne Côte d'Or Blanc is built from Meursault and Chassagne parcels declassified to the regional appellation.
Bourgogne Côte d'Or is a relatively recent appellation, created to distinguish regional wines grown on the Côte itself from those made anywhere in Burgundy. Germain's version comes from around a hectare of vines spread over four terroirs in Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet, among them Les Belles Côtes, just below the Chevalières lieu-dit, and Petit Clos, a genuine walled clos beside the winery in the centre of Meursault. The domaine is small and family-run, based in Meursault, and works to the same template across its range: whole-bunch pressing, natural fermentation and ageing in barrel with a modest proportion of new wood, without excessive lees stirring. The village-level sourcing shows in the wine, which carries more flesh and mineral length than the regional label suggests.
Drink over the next four or five years with roast chicken, poached fish or soft cheeses; serve at 10–12°C.
