Domaine Henri Germain Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge 2023

Domaine Henri Germain Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge is a red made in tiny quantity by an estate far better known for its Meursault and Chassagne whites.

The Bourgogne Côte d'Or appellation was created to distinguish regional wine grown on the slopes of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune from Bourgogne sourced more widely. Germain's version comes from two micro-parcels near Meursault: Au Jardin, the garden-like clos directly behind the cellar, and Moulin à Judas, which lies below the Chevalières vineyard. Production is small enough that allocations rarely go far. As with the whites, the approach in the cellar is unshowy, with the fruit given a straightforward vinification and raised in older oak so the red and dark fruit and the peppery lift of the site come through without obstruction. It is a well-made introduction to the domaine at the most accessible level of the Burgundy hierarchy.

Drink over the next three to six years with roast chicken, charcuterie or grilled mushrooms. Serve at 16-18°C.
