Domaine Henri Germain Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge 2020

Domaine Henri Germain Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge is a village red from a Côte de Beaune estate far better known for its whites.

Chassagne-Montrachet was historically a red wine village, and Pinot Noir is still planted on its heavier, redder clay soils, particularly on the lower and southern parts of the commune. The wines are firmer and more savoury than Volnay and less broad than Pommard. Henri Germain, based in Meursault, farms a small holding and works in a traditional way, with long, patient élevage in used Burgundian barrels and bottling without heavy handling.

Best given two to four years and good for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, beef bourguignon or a mushroom risotto.
