Domaine Henri Germain Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2023

Domaine Henri Germain's Meursault Charmes comes largely from the upper part of the vineyard, where it abuts the Puligny Premiers Crus.

Meursault is the largest of the white-wine communes of the Côte de Beaune, and Charmes is its biggest Premier Cru, running along the slope in two tiers known as dessous and dessus. Domaine Henri Germain is a small family estate in the village, now run by Jean-François Germain, working with a light hand in the cellar: whole-bunch pressing, natural fermentation, ageing on lees in barrel with a modest proportion of new wood. The holding here is spread across six parcels in both the lower and upper sections, with vine age starting at 35 years, though most of the surface lies at the top of the vineyard next to Puligny. Experienced tasters often remark that this is the most Puligny-like of the domaine's wines, which is usually put down to that position on the slope.

Rewarding five to fifteen years in bottle. Serve at 10 to 12°C with lobster, roast chicken with cream sauce or a Comté.
