Description

Limozin is a clay-rich Meursault lieu-dit tucked beneath the premier crus, and Henri Germain's vines there were planted in 1937.

Meursault's village vineyards vary enormously, and the ones that sit directly under the premier cru band are generally the best of them. Limozin is beautifully placed in exactly that position, bordering Les Charmes, Les Genevrières and Les Poruzots. Its higher clay content typically produces an intense, mineral and long-lived wine rather than an early-drinking one, and the site regularly outperforms its village classification. Germain's vines here date from 1937, and their age brings extra concentration and power to what the terroir already gives. Winemaking at the domaine follows the traditional Côte de Beaune pattern of whole-bunch pressing, fermentation in barrel with a modest proportion of new wood, and long ageing on lees before bottling, so the fruit and the site rather than the oak do the talking.

Give it three to five years and expect it to hold for ten. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled marron or a well-aged Comté.
