Domaine Henri Germain Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Gravains Rouge 2023

Domaine Henri Germain Aux Gravains is a Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru from vines planted in 1976, bought by the domaine only in 2021.

Savigny-lès-Beaune lies in a side valley north of Beaune, split between the sunnier slope towards Pernand and the cooler flank below the Combe de Bouillon, and its best Premiers Crus give perfumed, medium-weight Pinot Noir that has long been among the better value in the Côte de Beaune. Aux Gravains takes its name from the light, sandy and gravelly soil that runs through it, faces south, and sits between Les Lavières and Aux Serpentières. Cool air drawn down the combe keeps the fruit fresh, while the soil gives scent, floral lift and fine-grained tannin. Domaine Henri Germain, based in Meursault and now run by Jean-François Germain with his daughter Lucie, bought a small parcel here in March 2021, adding a red Premier Cru to a range better known for its Meursault whites.

Drinks well from two or three years and holds for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom pasta or a soft rind cheese.
