Description
Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes comes from a stony south-east facing slope planted across three generations.
Lamy farms 2.4 hectares in the Premier Cru Les Frionnes, with vines planted in 1935, 1960 and 1985 — an unusually broad spread of ages for a single cuvée, and one that gives the wine both depth and freshness. The site faces south-east on old decomposed limestone and clay, with a plethora of small rocks scattered through the topsoil. The vines sit adjacent to Derrière chez Edouard, but this is a slightly warmer terroir and is therefore picked earlier. Frionnes characteristically gives pulpy fruit alongside a vibrant, saline freshness, closing on a compact and rocky note. It is one of the more immediately charming wines in the Lamy Saint-Aubin range without giving up the tension that runs through all of them.
Approachable from release and good for a decade. Serve at 10–12°C with roast poultry, grilled snapper or a wedge of Comté.
