Domaine Hubert Lamy Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravières Rouge comes from a 0.28-hectare parcel planted at 20,000 vines per hectare.

Santenay sits at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune and has long been a source of good-value Pinot Noir; the Clos des Gravières, a walled site at the northern end of the commune near the Chassagne border, is among its better addresses. Lamy's red comes from a tiny parcel of forty-five-year-old vines within the Clos itself, now planted at a density of 20,000 vines per hectare. The vines are not trimmed but wrapped together at the top, an old practice that keeps the canopy working late in the season, and they produce tiny berries with very little juice. The wine is made with 70 per cent whole-bunch vinification, which adds brightness, structure and a tapering finish rather than any green edge.

Drink from two years and across the following decade. Serve at 16–18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a herbed pork loin.
