Domaine Hubert Lamy Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravières Rouge 2022

Domaine Hubert Lamy Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravières Rouge comes from 0.28 hectares of vines over fifty years old inside the walled clos, and was fermented with 80 per cent whole bunches.

Gravières sits at the northern end of Santenay near the Chassagne-Montrachet boundary, effectively continuing the line of the Clos de Tavannes, and within it lies a historically prized walled section that Dr Lavalle ranked Tête de Cuvée in 1855. Lamy farms both white and red inside the clos; this is the Pinot Noir, from a tiny parcel on a steep slope where the roots quickly reach limestone. Planting density now stands at 20,000 vines per hectare. The vines are not trimmed but wrapped down using the tressage method, which keeps the canopy working and yields very small berries and bunches. The high proportion of whole bunches in the ferment brings perfume, structure and a tapering finish rather than weight.

Perfumed and structured; drink from two years out to twelve. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a soft washed-rind cheese.
