Domaine Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec 2020

Domaine Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec is a monopole on the Première Côte, widely held to be the greatest of the estate's three vineyards.

Clos du Bourg is perched on the Première Côte just above the town of Vouvray and has been farmed by Domaine Huet since 1953, the estate purchasing it outright in 1963. It is a monopole and is generally regarded as the finest of the three Huet single vineyards, and by some as the finest vineyard in the region, capable of making some of the most powerful and long-lived white wines in Europe. There is only one metre of topsoil over solid limestone, so the vines tap almost immediately into the mineral resources underfoot. The warmth of the site combined with the mineral complexion of the soils gives rich, super long-lived wines that seem to combine charged minerality with generous texture and concentration without effort. In the demi-sec register the small amount of residual sugar sits inside that structure rather than on top of it.

Approachable now and worth two or three decades. Serve at 10-12°C with roast pork, smoked eel or a blue-veined cheese.
