Description
Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux is a sweet Chenin Blanc from the estate's siliceous clay slope above the Vouvray plateau.
Vouvray covers the tuffeau limestone plateau above the Loire east of Tours, and Chenin Blanc is bottled there as dry, demi-sec, moelleux or sparkling wine depending on what the season delivers. Domaine Huet was founded in 1928 and works three sites on that plateau: Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont and Le Clos du Bourg. Le Mont sits on flinty clay over tuffeau, a cooler and more siliceous soil than the estate's other parcels, and it is the site most associated with tension and perfume rather than weight. Moelleux is made only in years when botrytis and ripeness allow, picked in successive passes through the vineyard so that only the affected bunches are taken, fermented slowly with the estate's own yeasts and stopped with substantial residual sugar. Bottled without heavy handling, these are among the longest-lived sweet wines in France.
Drinkable now and capable of thirty years or more, it goes with foie gras, blue cheese and a fruit tart. Serve at 8-10°C.
