Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux 2023

Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux is a sweet Chenin Blanc from the steepest and stoniest of the estate’s three vineyards, a site better known for its dry wines.

Le Mont is an eight-hectare vineyard on Vouvray’s Première Côte, the bank of limestone-rich hillside overlooking Tours, and Domaine Huet has owned it since 1957. Its argilo-siliceux soils — stony ground with green mineral clays and flint over limestone — carry less clay, and a different clay, than the estate’s Le Haut-Lieu, and the result is the tightest and most mineral wine in the Huet range. For that reason Le Mont is usually given over to dry and off-dry bottlings, and a moelleux is made only when the season delivers fruit concentrated by botrytis or by passerillage on the vine. When it does appear, the sweetness sits on the firm acid spine and pungent stony grip that the vineyard is known for, rather than smothering it.

Drinkable on release and capable of ageing for decades. Serve at 8-10°C with foie gras, a fruit tart or a wedge of blue cheese.
