Domaine Jaeger Defaix Rully 1er Cru Rabourcé Blanc 2023

Rabourcé is a steep Premier Cru above the village of Rully, long nicknamed the Montrachet of Rully for the weight it can produce.

Rully sits at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, close enough to the Côte de Beaune to share its geology and far enough away to remain affordable. Rabourcé lies west of the village, above the well-regarded Cloux vineyard and just below the treeline, on soils of white, limestone-rich clay. It is among the first vineyards in Rully to ripen. Domaine Jaeger Defaix farms vines here that are now 40 to 45 years old, and the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and raised in used oak barrels, so the site's depth comes through without new-oak flavour. The bottling is sealed under Diam. Expect fleshy, mouthcoating stone fruit and white flower character with a long, refreshing close.

Drink from now through the next eight years, with roast chicken, grilled fish or a mushroom tart, at 10 to 12°C.
