Description
Domaine Jean-Marc et Thomas Bouley Bourgogne Pinot Noir Côte d'Or Rouge is a red Burgundy from the appellation created to set the Côte d'Or apart from the wider region.
Bourgogne Côte d'Or was recognised in 2017 as a more precise regional appellation, restricted to vineyards inside the communes of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune rather than anywhere in Burgundy. In practice it identifies wines from parcels at the foot of the famous slope, often just below the village boundaries, farmed and vinified by the same hands as the grander bottlings from the same cellar. The grape is Pinot Noir. The Bouley family is based in Volnay, where Thomas Bouley makes the wines with his father Jean-Marc, and their holdings run through Volnay and neighbouring Pommard. Pinot Noir has held the slope since the fourteenth century, when Philip the Bold banned Gamay from the Côte d'Or outright.
It suits charcuterie, roast poultry or a mushroom risotto, and is best served a little below room temperature.
