Description
Domaine Jean-Marc et Thomas Bouley Pommard 1er Cru Les Fremiers is a premier cru red Burgundy from the corner of Pommard that touches Volnay.
Les Fremiers lies at the southern edge of Pommard, on the boundary with Volnay, and growers have long observed that wines from this end of the commune take after their neighbour rather than the heavier ground towards Beaune. Pommard is a red-only appellation planted to Pinot Noir, with clay and iron-rich soils over limestone that give the village its reputation for structure. There is no grand cru here, so the premiers crus carry the village's name. The Bouley domaine is based in Volnay, a few hundred metres away, where Thomas Bouley makes the wines with his father Jean-Marc. The boundary with Volnay here is a matter of a few metres of soil, a reminder of how finely the Burgundian map is drawn.
It suits roast or braised beef, game and mature cheeses, and it is generally worth five to ten years in a cool cellar.
