Domaine Jean-Marc et Thomas Bouley Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes is a premier cru red Burgundy from one of the largest and most admired vineyards in Volnay.

Clos des Chênes covers around fifteen hectares on the upper slope of Volnay, towards Monthelie, where the soil is thin and stony over hard limestone and the vines sit high enough to ripen slowly. It is usually named with Les Caillerets at the top of the village hierarchy, and in a red-only appellation with no grand cru, that puts it among the finest wines the commune makes. Pinot Noir is the sole grape. The Bouley family has farmed in Volnay for generations, and Thomas Bouley now makes the wines with his father Jean-Marc. The name records the oaks that once grew on the higher ground above the vineyard.

It is best given time, ideally eight years or more, and suits roast duck, game birds or a soft washed-rind cheese.
