Domaine Jean-Marc et Thomas Bouley Volnay 1er Cru Clos Mitans is a premier cru red Burgundy from a walled parcel in the middle of the Volnay slope.

Les Mitans is a small premier cru in the heart of Volnay, mid-slope near Champans and close to the village itself, on limestone with a little more clay than the thin ground higher up. Clos des Mitans is a walled parcel within it. Volnay makes red wine only, from Pinot Noir, and has no grand cru, so its thirty-odd premiers crus carry the reputation of the commune, which has been built on perfume and precision rather than weight. The Bouley family has farmed here for generations, and Thomas Bouley now makes the wines with his father Jean-Marc.

It suits roast poultry, duck or a mushroom dish, and it is usually at its best from around five years after the vintage. A short decant before serving does it no harm.
