Domaine la Réméjeanne Côtes du Rhône Les Arbousiers Blanc 2022

Domaine la Réméjeanne Côtes du Rhône Les Arbousiers Blanc is a five-variety blend built on the estate’s oldest white plantings, including Bourboulenc from the early 1970s.

Réméjeanne farms in the garrigue country of the Gard, on the right bank of the Rhône north of Bagnols-sur-Cèze, and is certified organic. Les Arbousiers is not the domaine’s most expensive white — that is the Roussanne-dominant Les Églantiers — but it draws on the oldest white vines on the property, among them a parcel of Bourboulenc planted in the early 1970s by Olivier Klein’s grandfather, François. This year’s blend is 30 per cent Clairette, 30 per cent Roussanne, 20 per cent Bourboulenc, 10 per cent Viognier and 10 per cent Marsanne, with the Bourboulenc contributing more freshness than its modest share would suggest. The grapes are pressed as whole bunches and ferment on natural yeasts, the Roussanne in 1,800-litre foudre and the rest in concrete vats, with amphora being trialled from this vintage. The wine then rests six months on fine lees before blending.

Drink over the next three to four years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, roast pork or a herbed goat’s cheese.
