Description
Les Arbousiers is a Côtes du Rhône of 60 per cent Grenache and 40 per cent Syrah, from a single plot of organically farmed old vines.
Domaine la Réméjeanne works at Sabran, in the Gard on the right bank of the southern Rhône, at higher altitude than much of the appellation and on limestone-rich soils that are quite unusual in this part of the valley. The Arbousiers plot takes its name from the strawberry tree that grows wild across central and southern France. Many southern Rhône old-vine bottlings chase tannic weight and heavy extraction; this one does the opposite, using the altitude and the limestone to produce a finely balanced wine with poise and freshness rather than sheer power. The vineyards are certified organic, and the winemaking is straightforward, with the two varieties handled so as to keep the Grenache fruit bright and the Syrah providing structure and lift.
Ready to drink and good for a further few years; serve at 16-18°C with grilled lamb, ratatouille or a herby sausage.
