Description
Domaine la Réméjeanne Côtes du Rhône Les Arbousiers Rouge comes from a single plot of old vines named after the arbutus trees that grow around it.
Réméjeanne farms in the Gard, on the western side of the southern Rhône, where the garrigue-covered hills sit a little higher and cooler than the valley floor. The estate is certified organic. Les Arbousiers is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah from one old-vine parcel, and it is deliberately made against the grain of the region: rather than the weighty tannins and heavy extraction that many old-vine southern Rhône blends aim for, this is picked and vinified for balance and finesse. At around 320 metres the site ripens both varieties fully while holding on to the acidity and energy that has become scarce in the southern Rhône, and the wine is built on freshness and lift rather than sheer power.
Drink it over the next five years with grilled lamb cutlets, ratatouille or a herbed roast chicken. Serve at 16–18°C.
